Achilles & Patroclus
Written by James Washburn
Director / Fight Director / Intimacy Choreographer
Windmill Theatre Company
Sarasota, FL
2022
A queer retelling of the Achilles and Patroclus myth, fully in verse. Staged to make the audience feel like the love and violence of the two heroes were both settled on a knife's edge. The adult Achilles watches his life play out from beginning to bitter end of Patroclus through the younger versions of the lovers.

Asolo Repertory Theatre

2024
Directed by Celine Rosenthal
I was so grateful to have worked with the incredible Celine Rosenthal on this groundbreaking adaptation of the Knott play. A thriller that speaks to the twisting of the American Dream, and the monsters that are hidden within the people we trust most.

Two Cent Lion / Shifted Lens 2025
A historical fiction turned legend that mythologizes the famous Anne Bonny, Mary Read, Jack Rackham, and Jonathan Barnet. Swashbuckling and soaring but also deeply haunting, I have had the pleasure to re-imagine this story several times for stage and through the nearly 400 page score I wrote for the production in 2025.
Leaving For a Loon
Director
Magpies on the Fly
Valdez, Alaska
2025
A funny, beautiful, and deeply poignant burlesque-style love-letter to the Alaskan wilderness and Alaska's history. This was a brand new play that I directed and choreographed after spending two summers in Valdez and falling in love with it myself. Musicality played a huge role in this production, as I chose to represent the titular loon with a live violin motif. Every creature was personified as a physical actor on stage to give credence to the spirit that lives inside each of us. Deeply relatable characters are at the core of this story, even in the abstract dance numbers throughout. I combined ballet, traditional Sugpiaq dancing (after consulting local elders), tap, burlesque, square dancing, and contemporary musical theatre along with textual analysis to create this whirlwind of a show.
